Lilly

My Grandma Lilly passed away this month. This last Saturday we had a "Celebration of Life" for her. It was a great way to say goodbye! It was Hawaiian themed because that was one of her favorite places, and where she had the time of her life. We had her old photo albums and played some of her favorite music. Then we did what we do best, eat and drink. A bunch of family and friends came to Half Moon Bay, which was gorgeous, and we set up pictures of her and artwork she has done. She was extremely talented, and by far my favorite artist. A talent I am jealous I did not get. She was such a wonderful lady. She was the stubbornest person I have ever meet, which is a characteristic that she has passed to all the Mathis'. A good way to never forget her. She would never wear her dentures or a hearing aid but had the greatest heart. I have great memories of her I will never forget.

There was a friend of hers and my grandpas, Joe, that came. He was 88 years old! He was so funny! If you know me at all, you know how much I love older people. He walked up with his cane and started talking politics and arguing with people. I had a great time talking/watching him and learning more about my grandma from all the other guests.

After being on the beach, the closest family members took a boat out on the ocean. We played Hawaiian music and toasted to Lilly. Then my mom and her brother threw their lays in the water and spread her ashes in the ocean so she could float away to Hawaii, her last wishes.

Goodbye Grandma. I will never forget you!

Senior

Longing for the unknown....and terrified at the same time.
I want to go over the rainbow, but sometimes I fear to fly.
